Ionizers and Swimming Pool Water Chemistry
The intent of an ionizer in a swimming pool is to reduce cost of chemicals. Ionizers usually release copper and silver ions into the pool water. The copper helps prevent algae growth, and silver helps kill bacteria. The combination of these two greatly reduces the amount of Chlorine consumed in the pool.
Don’t be fooled. Simply using an ionizer and adding bleach to your pool’s water is simply not enough. Your pool water must still be correctly balanced in order for the little bit of chlorine in the water AND for the life of your pool’s interior finish and other pool equipment. Failure to take those things into consideration can lead to costly repairs.
When the silver does its part to kill or help kill bacteria, the dead organic contaminant left behind must STILL be oxidized. Failure to do so will only lead to problems.
Based on usage, location, and other variables, each pool has it’s own personality. Therefore, there is a chemical program that is just right for each pool. We at AQUA PROS POOLS AND SPAS invite you to contact us online or stop into any of our stores in Central Virginia, and we’ll discuss what is the best pool program for you to care for your pool.
