Benefits of Infrared Saunas

Infra_red_Sauna_257271.jpgInfrared technology is the hottest craze in heat bathing today. Infrared waves are found in the invisible Electromagnetic Spectrum (EM). These are user-safe waves of light, much like ultra-violet light waves of the sun. Infrared therapy saunas differ from traditional saunas in that they operate at a lower ambient temperature and do not use water or rocks to create humidity/steam. Infrared saunas are for folks that prefer a lower ambient temperature.

Traditional Saunas heat the body from the outside in, whereas infrared saunas heat the core temperature of the body from the inside out. Typical heat penetration from a traditional sauna is between 1/4" and 1/2” from the skin’s surface. An IR wave from an infrared sauna is capable of penetrating to a depth of 1 1/4” into the skin’s surface. This deeper penetration actually induces more profuse sweating and as a result, produces deeper and more rapid detoxification of the body by bringing more impurities, toxins, and pollutants to the surface through the pores of the skin. This profuse sweating happens without feelings of suffocation and discomfort of the high temperatures of traditional dry heat saunas. In scientific terms, a vibratory resonance is set up between the body’s infrared emissions and those of the infrared sauna and in this case, heat is not the important factor. Herein are the primary differences between IR and Traditional sauna bathing.

In an article written by Alan D. Clark, M.D., Infrared Sauna Therapy is credited with removing a host of toxins from the human body through sweating. Most potentially harmful chemicals just sit in our fat cells and are not metabolized. In a little known 1976 article from National Geographic, it was described how Spanish miners who showed signs of mercurialism, were able to rid themselves of toxic mercury accumulation by means of sweat baths after work. Since Infrared Sauna therapy produces the most profuse sweating and excretion, these saunas may be the most effective in removal of a vast amount of toxins via the skin, thereby bypassing the kidney and use of oral or intravenous chelating agents.

A 20 – 30 minute session in a FAR Infrared sauna has been calculated to burn as many calories as a 6 mile run, and have the same beneficial cardiovascular effects. NASA determined many years ago that far infrared therapy (such as gained in an infrared sauna) was best for maintaining fitness levels for astronauts in a weightless environment. Immune system enhancement is also another benefit of infrared sauna therapy.

DIRECT BENEFICIARIES OF INFRARED SAUNA USE

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia Syndrome Sufferers:According to R.A. Buist, toxins can impede muscle metabolism, causing the pain and fatigability of muscles felt by many fatigued people. One study showed that 70% of those afflicted with CFS had a chemical trigger, such as pesticide application or remodeling job. One doctor asserts that the source of the fatigue is the result of damage from chemicals, heavy metals, and other toxins to the mitochondria, which are the energy sources of cells. Bottom line, there is an abundance of scientifically based material that supports the theory that CFIDS and Fibromyalgia are triggered and caused by toxins and heavy metals in our bodies. Those toxins are excreted in high quantities during properly conducted infrared sauna therapy sessions.

Studies in Japan have concluded that perspiration induced byfar infrared sauna use contains as much as 3 times the amount of toxins contained in sweat expelled during exercise.
